Vol 5
Written by the Editor-in-Chief
This issue has been a trying one, and like issues past instituted several new processes, including formalizing our e-zine editorial guidline which resulted in many not only structural changes, but also delegated positions to our editors.
Halfway through the process, our Prose Editor due to out of site constraints and limitations, was unable to not only present their own work but also the work of those they were working with (Associative Editors). This resulted in drastic reshuffling and in some cases, reassigning of pieces to other editors who by that time, had been freed up. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Associate Editors for their willingness and determination to step up beyond their responsibilities and see Vol 5 through to publication.
Because time was increasingly short, we looked outward for a replacement (and possibly, full time) Associate Editor and found someone who was gracious enough to fill in. Furthermore, because of the time limit, some pieces that we felt were deserving of consideration (provided they went through appropriate bouts of editing), were pushed back for Volume 6. I am hopeful that as the volumes progress, we will get a little more comfortable in our new skins and delegated roles.
This issue contains a very small number of pieces although there were many in consideration. The decision, as in issues past, lay with me but with the formulation of the editorial policy: Editors now had the prerogative to vet material before sending it forward to me. The finalized list stands as a compilation of these discussions. That said, this volume representes a wide variety of styles and concepts, that are different from past volumes. I believe that our writers have only gotten better and Desi Writers Lounge continues to represent the best material from the young writers of Pakistan and the South Asian diaspora.
I hope you enjoy reading this issue, the fruit of our team's many labors. Thank you to the Editor(s) of Poetry and Prose and their respective Associate Editors, for a job well done. Many of the associates had, along with their own mentees, the responsibility of working with their peers for editing of their own work. To pull double duties, and to do it flawlessly is commendable.
And now, continue forward to Volume 5: Bohemians, one of our better titles representing a wide mix of pieces.
